How much does a professional website cost in 2026?

A useful way to budget your next website without comparing proposals that include completely different work.

The right website budget starts with the job it needs to do.

Define the kind of website you actually need

A five-page service website, a high-conversion marketing site and a complex web application should not share the same budget expectations. Write down your audience, core pages, contact or checkout actions, content sources and integrations before requesting estimates.

Separate visual design from technical scope

A tailored design system, custom interactions, content migration, ecommerce logic, membership access and external software integrations each add different requirements. Ask agencies to show what is included in design, development, testing, launch and post-launch support.

Budget for the content and the launch

The project is more than design files. Copywriting, photography, accessibility review, technical SEO, analytics, redirects, hosting and maintenance may fall outside a base quote. Make ownership and licenses explicit.

Compare deliverables, not headline figures

Request a page inventory, functionality list, revision process, timeline, acceptance criteria and support terms. A lower quote is not necessarily more affordable if essential work is excluded.

Putting it into practice

A scope-first estimate makes it easier to choose the right solution. If you have an existing site, include its URL and the biggest problems you want to solve.
