A practical technical SEO checklist before your website goes live

What to verify before launch so a beautifully designed website is also crawlable, understandable and ready to measure.

Launch day SEO is mostly about preventing avoidable problems.

Check indexability first

Make sure important public pages are not accidentally blocked by robots.txt or noindex tags. Confirm each important page has a meaningful canonical URL, correct status code and a unique, descriptive title.

Protect existing URLs during redesigns

Inventory current URLs, identify pages with organic traffic or links, and plan 301 redirects for changed addresses. Keep useful content and internal links discoverable, and avoid redirecting everything to the homepage.

Validate content structure and performance

Use descriptive headings, HTML links, sensible navigation, images with appropriate alternative text, and mobile layouts that retain important content. Test Core Web Vitals on representative page types.

Instrument and validate

Connect Search Console and analytics, submit an XML sitemap, test structured data, inspect priority URLs and verify contact or purchase events. Monitor crawl errors and performance after deployment.

Putting it into practice

SEO readiness is an ongoing practice, not a single checkbox. Prioritize pages your customers actually need.
